Dear Parents,
Below is the
information you will need for Saturday. Please have your daughter
there no later than 8:15. Be sure they bring plenty of water/gatorade,
ball, whistle, jersey & gear, snacks and lunch. This venue is in a
warehouse type park near the airport and sort of behind Briar
Creek. There are plenty of food venues at Briar Creek but remember
that I require the girls to stay on site so if you wish to get food
for them please plan it so they are well nourished with healthy
foods prior to play. There is no food allowed in the venue and it
is not likely to be too nice for them to go outside like in Durham
but we will keep you posted. We will try to bring our tent but we
will be traveling from Raleigh to Richmond Saturday night. Remember
to over pack because it is impossible to tell how long or short our
day will be.
Crystal Long has
stepped up to help me on the bench and learn our system/rotations in
case of illness or conflict for me. She has been IMPACT certified
and I look forward to her support. Katie has a tournament in
Richmond we wish her and the other NC Elite Teams the best of luck!
Thank you to Crystal.
I look forward to
another fun and aggressive outing. Our next tournament (provided we
stay in Platinum) will be in Fayetteville on February 2nd.
We need to discuss this as a group on Saturday or prior to if you
are unable to attend. If we decide to go, it will cost about $20
per player for hotel plus money for dinner and breakfast. Crystal
and I will take them down Friday night and stay together as a team.
It would actually be a lot of fun as a team outing. Parents can
either come on Friday, Saturday or not at all – we will take very
good care of your daughter! Remember that over night tournaments
are not in our budget which is why there would be an additional
fee. Feel free to send me your thoughts. If one or two people are
unable to attend, we can still move forward if enough girls are
interested. Our concern is that if we do not attend, we will not
compete for almost a month! That is a long time to stay competitive
at this level.
As always, thank
you for your support! Sweatshirts are in and will be picked up
tonight. If you wish, call tomorrow to arrange pick up at my house
336-583-5823 otherwise, I will bring them on Saturday.
Best,
Micholene

Now we will ref, rest, play, ref,
rest, play, rest, play. That means they will not play until
about 10:30 or 11:00 (estimated). If parents do not want to get
there so early, I would encourage carpooling. This could still
change. I will not require that the girls be there until 8:30
rather than 9 but PLEASE DO NOT BE LATE because if a team does
not show up we will have to move back to a first match start.
If we are not there for our ref duties, we will be penalized!
From the frequently asked
questions on the region website….
(9) The
FIVE-Team format (above) for Juniors has one team playing an
extra match. Why?
First, one of the major concerns in
our post-season survey of Junior coaches, players, and parents
in past seasons was how long the tournaments were taking. The
old five-team format was a major factor in this since it
required 10 matches. So, the Junior Division came up with the
five-team format two season's ago that eliminated two matches
but still allowed every team to get their required minimum
amount of matches. The Carolina Region has always guaranteed
teams a minumum of THREE matches when they play a tournament
(four-team pool have that minimum). There will be some formats
(6- and 7-team pools) and some teams that make playoffs will get
more but the minimum has always been three matches when entering
a tournament. So, the 5-team format had to get every team in it
3 matches. In order to do that, ONE team has to play four
matches so all the other teams can play THREE. The current
format has the FIFTH seeded team playing the four matches. All
teams will have opportunity to earn their way into the playoffs.
If two teams have a tie in record (for example 2-1), then the
first tie-breaker is head to head in pool. If they didn't play
during pool, then the tie-breaker is one game to 15 (switch at
8). By design, the fifth seeded team shouldn't tie any teams
(they could go 4-0 or 3-1). If fifth seeded team goes 3-1 that
record IS better than 2-1 (and they would deserve the higher
spot anyway since "upset" 3 higher teams). Pools will be seeded
based on the season's Points System (see #11 below). For seeding
into playoffs, teams will be ranked in the pool based on match
win percentage and then game win-percentage.
